Today, at the developer conference I/O 2015, Google officially introduced the next version of its mobile operating system Android M. As in the past year, after release the name will be changed, but the serial number of the new version of the system has not been announced. The Google Android M team has worked hard to improve the system and optimize it, while the external changes in the user interface will not be affected.
The first thing we were told that in the Android M, users can customize the permissions for applications. When installing any new application you will be asked to choose what program to open access. Thus, applications can request access to the location, cameras, microphones, contacts, phone, SMS, calendar, and built-in sensor.
For example, you can close WhatsApp access to the microphone, but in this case you do not get to make voice calls. Also, you can at any time change the permissions settings for your device.
The second change in the Android M is more intended for developers who are now using the Chrome Custom Tabs, which can make any application can open the link in Chrome, without leaving the application. These programs will keep passwords and auto-complete support fields.
Then we went about App Links. Now, if you click on the link in the email, then you are invited to an application to open it. The Android M applications will be assigned different tasks. For example, when you click on the link on Twitter, then you will automatically start the Twitter client.
Will Pro Android Pay be available outside the US is still unknown.
As previously reported, Android M added native support for fingerprint readers. Thus, developers will have API to implement support for scanners in their applications.
The last and most interesting change in the Android M was the optimization of energy consumption. A new feature called Doze responsible for “smart” control energy consumption. For example, at night, when we almost do not use the devices, their energy will be almost untouched. Google says that this feature will significantly increase the battery life. For example, Doze enabled function caused Nexus 9 works twice as long.
The new version adds support for Android Connector Type USB Type-C and the possibility of using their smartphone or tablet to charge other devices.
From small changes it is worth noting a more convenient choice of words and text for copying, as well as revised menu.
And the last proposed change has become more advanced system of data exchange. Now, when you want to send the photo or any other file, you are immediately being offered a list of contacts with whom you most frequently communicate with.
Android M Developer Preview will be released today for developers and their Nexus 5, 6, 9 and Nexus Player. The official release date is expected sometime this fall.
